🎭 Apostate 感謝公主 (International Premiere)

APOSTATE is finally coming to KL after making waves in Taiwan. This award-winning play mixes ancient Chinese opera with modern theatre, and it’s one you definitely don’t want to miss.

A hit at the Taishin Arts Award and Golden Melody Awards, Apostate tells two powerful stories: one of a Song Dynasty envoy forced into marriage, and another of a modern-day prisoner struggling with loyalty and identity. Expect rich visuals, emotional depth, and a unique blend of traditional Nanguan music (yes, the UNESCO heritage kind!) with multimedia and modern sound design.

It’s performed in Mandarin with Quanzhou dialect and English surtitles, featuring 12 actors and musicians. Plus, it’s a homecoming moment for Taiwan-based Malaysian director Koh Choon Eiow. If you loved Luna or Jingju Magic, you’ll love this too—it’s part of the same collaboration with the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office and KLPAC.

If you love local theatre that makes you think and feel, this one’s a must-watch.

  • When: Friday to Sunday, June 27–29, 8:00 PM (20 & 21 June), 3:00 PM (21 & 22 June)
